I predicted in my previous post that the Democratic Party is going to have an uphill battle this year given the problems the president’s party has in off-year elections, especially in the second term. Republicans will come out against Obamacare this year, and against an unpopular president (although, truth be told, President Obama’s numbers are pretty good.)
Does that necessarily mean the Democrats are going to lose down ballot elections such as for the Wake County District Attorney’s open office?
No. A skilled Democrat can win. I was reminded that Colon Willoughby proved as much, winning as the only Democrat in elections where the Republicans otherwise swept Wake County.
I would add that it’ll take financial backing this year, really for any candidate given that neither candidate will be an incumbent.
