Jefferson Griffin, who secured more than 22 percent of the votes in the May 6 Republican Primary for Wake County District Attorney, announced today that he has endorsed Republican John Bryant in his runoff with Republican Jeff Cruden set for July 15, 2014.
Cruden (33.68%) edged Bryant (32.61%) out by just 404 votes out of the more than 35,000 cast in the Republican Primary. Because neither of the candidates secured the requisite 40 percent to win the nomination outright, the two will face off in the July 15 runoff.
Bryant has significant backing from leading Republicans, including Rep. George Holding (former United States Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina), Senator Richard Burr, Wake County Board of Commissioner Paul Coble, Former Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court I. Beverly Lake, and Forsyth County District Attorney Jim O’Neill.
Jefferson Griffin’s Press Release
Today, Assistant District Attorney and former Primary Candidate for Wake County District Attorney, Jefferson Griffin, formally endorsed John Bryant for District Attorney.
“Now more than ever we need a District Attorney who has a track record for standing up for justice. John is the right person for this job and for Wake County,” sited Griffin. “John’s experience in both running his own practice and as a defense attorney provides him the necessary perspective for the office of District Attorney here in Wake County.”
Griffin added, “John brings many of the same values of hard work, honesty, and integrity that my campaign was run on and that I championed. His maturity and experience will make him a very strong candidate and one that we can all get behind.”
Bryant is a managing partner of his firm which handles both criminal and civil cases. He has also served as the prosecutor for the Board of Nursing, providing him valuable experience on both sides of the process.
Griffin, as a first time candidate, received 22.76% of the vote with 8,594 votes, putting him in third place.
At a recent event for supporters at Mordecai Park, Griffin thanked everyone who supported his campaign for District Attorney for their time and dedication they put into the race. “Our campaign was extremely successful and I am proud of everything that we accomplished,” stated Griffin.
